Tehama County Jail Roster

The Tehama County Jail Inmate Roster is a public resource that allows you to check who is currently in custody in Tehama County, California. Public information about current and recently released inmates can be found on the TehamaCourt.us website. Additionally, data is available through the official website of the Tehama County Sheriff's Office, in person at the jail reception, or by phone. The roster allows the public to check custody status, view charges, and learn the booking date. It is maintained by the county sheriff's office, and the data is updated regularly.

Search Current Inmates in Tehama Jail

To find information about a person currently held in the county jail, use one of the methods below.

Online Search

  1. Go to TehamaCourt.us — here you can search for public court and penitentiary information.
  2. Enter the person's full legal name (last name and first name) or booking number if you know it.
  3. Review the results: the roster usually displays the name, date of birth, charges, booking date, and bail amount.

If the sheriff's office publishes a separate list of inmates on their site, you can also use the browser's search function (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) to quickly find a last name in the list.

By Phone

Call the jail and provide the person's full name. The dispatcher will confirm whether they are in custody. Information about juvenile offenders is not displayed in the public roster — it is also not provided by phone.

In Person

Visit the jail reception window at:

Tehama County Jail
22840 Antelope BlvdRed Bluff, CA 96080Phone: (530) 529-7900

Contact details for the Tehama County Sheriff's Office are also available on the California Department of Justice website. You will need the detainee's full legal name for the search — abbreviations or nicknames may not yield results.

Find Tehama Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created every time a person is brought to jail and undergoes the registration process. It is not the same as a court case — it is a document of the detention facility.

During booking, the following data is recorded:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of admission
  • Charges presented
  • Arresting agency (sheriff's office, Red Bluff police, Corning police, etc.)
  • Bail amount, if set
  • Photo of the detainee

Access to these records can be obtained in several ways. The online jail roster is the quickest option for checking current detainees. If you need older records or document copies, submit a Public Records Act request to the sheriff's office. The California Public Records Act, Government Code § 6250 et seq., generally guarantees public access to government documents, although certain categories of information may be restricted — for example, data related to an active investigation.

If a person has been transferred to a state-level facility, they can be found through the California Incarcerated Records & Information Search (CIRIS), supported by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Search the Tehama Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The roster supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

Enter the detainee's last name. Adding the first name will narrow the results, but if you're unsure of the correct spelling — start with just the last name. A few tips:

  • Use the official legal name, not nicknames.
  • Check alternative spellings (e.g., with or without a hyphen).
  • If the last name is common, add the first or middle name for more accurate results.

Search by Booking Number

The booking number is a unique identifier assigned during jail registration. It provides an exact result without variations. This number is usually given to relatives during the first contact with the facility or indicated in court documents.

If the Search Yields No Results

The absence of a name in the roster does not necessarily mean the person has not been detained. Possible reasons:

  1. The booking procedure is not yet complete, and the record has not yet appeared in the system.
  2. The person has already been released — the roster only displays those currently in custody.
  3. The name was entered incorrectly or does not match the legal name in the database.
  4. The detainee is a minor — such records are not published.

In any of these cases, call the jail directly for clarification. To search for court cases related to criminal charges, use the online services of the Tehama County Superior Court, where the calendar of hearings and other resources are available. The Criminal Division of the Court holds hearings in Red Bluff.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Tehama

The inmate roster is updated periodically throughout the day, but it does not happen instantly. Several hours may pass between the actual booking and the appearance of the record in the online system — especially at night, on weekends, or during mass arrests.

Main limitations to be aware of:

  • Publication delay. New records appear after the registration procedure is completed, not at the moment of arrest.
  • Disappearance of records after release. When a person is released on bail, by court decision, or after serving their term, their name is removed from the current roster. It is not an archive — it is a snapshot of the current state of the jail.
  • Data entry errors. Sometimes names or charges are entered with minor inaccuracies, complicating the search.
  • Lack of historical data. The public roster generally does not contain records of individuals released weeks or months ago.

If you need information about past bookings, submit a written request to the sheriff's office in accordance with the California Public Records Act. To search for individuals transferred to state-level facilities, use the CIRIS system on the CA.gov website. Court records — verdicts, hearing transcripts, rulings — are stored separately in the Tehama County Superior Court.
